Our Story

When I was getting married, I dreamed of becoming a Kandyan bride. I found myself a gorgeous saree, one that made me feel regal and radiant. But the truth was, it cost a fortune, and I only wore it for a few hours during the Poruwa ceremony before changing into my going-away dress.

That’s the reality for so many Sri Lankan brides. We invest so much into a Kandyan bridal outfit that is worn just once and then carefully packed away, never to be used again.

Aaryavi Bridal was born from that very experience. I wanted to create something different, something that gives our Lankan brides here in New Zealand the chance to wear what they love, to feel that noble, regal beauty of a Kandyan bride, without the weight of spending a small fortune for just a few hours.

Meet Bernie

I’m Bernadine, the heart & Soul behind Aaryavi Bridal. I was born and raised in our beloved motherland, Sri Lanka, a place where tradition, elegance, and love are woven into every celebration. Chasing my dreams led me to the beautiful land of Aotearoa, where Aaryavi Bridal was born, a space where timeless Kandyan heritage meets modern bridal luxury.

My inspiration comes from the grace and artistry of Sri Lankan brides, the intricate jewellery, the golden embroidery, and the timeless elegance of the Kandyan drape. Through Aaryavi, I wanted to celebrate the beauty of our culture, while giving it a modern, refined touch for today’s brides.

Every look I create tells a story, one that honours our roots yet feels fresh, sophisticated, and uniquely you. Because your bridal journey should be more than just about what you wear — it should reflect your story, your heritage, and your heart.

I believe in romance — the kind rooted in family, tradition, and the quiet magic of love. I love hearing love stories (and yes, I’m guilty of losing track of time watching K-dramas!).

When I’m not dreaming up bridal looks, you’ll find me caught in a love triangle between my two boys, my husband, and my son, who are always competing for my attention (don’t judge!).

Meet Kanch

I’m Kanchana, Bernie’s biggest supporter and cheerleader. I’m proud to be her number two, always ready to back her up and guide her as she dives into this journey that fills her with so much joy and passion.

Watching Bernie’s dream come to life has been incredible, and I have to admit she’s sold me on it too! I can’t wait to see her help you bring your own dream to life.

When I’m not being a husband and father (my most important roles), I’m an engineer by day, gamer by night and annoying Bernie is my favourite hobby.
